“DAAD funded scholarships at EiT-M for local & international students for 2017/2018”

Ethiopian Institute of Technology (EiT-M), Mekelle University  is offering  10 internationally funded Master’s Degree scholarships in following eight fields:

    1.  Communication Engineering
    2.  Control & Instrumentation
    3.  Manufacturing & Materials Engineering
    4.  Product Design & Development
    5.  Quality Engineering and KaiZen
    6.  Structural Engineering
    7.  Thermo-Fluid Engineering, and
    8.  Urban Planning & Development

All degrees are financially funded and supported by DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service). Scholarships are available for up to a maximum of two years. The scholarship will be initially granted for one year and may be extended upon individual request and receipt of a complete application by using the provided form.

Tracer Study on EiTM Graduates

This Tracer Study analyzes the gainful employment of EiTM 2014 graduates. It has been studied by a team of six members of our institute representing each school which addressed by the study. The study assessed the employability of our graduates, alumni satisfaction with theoretical knowledge, they gained at EiTM, as well as to assess the appropriateness of  EiTM teaching content compared to current practical conditions in Ethiopia.

Stronger Leadership @ EiTM

MU has offered in April 2016 two days leadership training to more than 50 EiTM officers (Chair Heads, Quality Assurance Heads, Officers, School Deans and Management council members). The training was offered by College of Business and Economics and Prof. Mitiku Haile, who presented leadership in Higher Education.

Ethiopian Institute of Technology – Mekelle(EiT-M) has successfully conducted a Technology Transfer of Five Technologies and Trainings

Technology Transfer and Training for TVET Experts

Ethiopian Institute of Technology – Mekelle (EiT-M) has successfully conducted a technology transfer of five technologies and trainings on three different areas for 41 technical and Vocational Educational Training (TVET) experts and SME owners from different parts of Tigray region. The training, which is conducted in collaboration with the Tigray Bureau of TVET, has stayed for a total effective period of 12 days, from November 02 to 13, 2015. the transferred technologies are Box Joint Jig for Woodwork applications (By Mr. Micheale G/Mariam), Silk Spinner (by Mr. Tsegay Tesfay), Bone Crasher Machine (by Mr. Mewael G/hiwot), Soap Mixer Machine (Mr. Mohammedsalih) and Cheese Pressing Machine (by Mr. Alula G/esas). The trainings are “Solar System for household applications” (by Mr. Sibhatleab H/silassie, “Product Design and Development” (by Mr. Mewael G/hiwot and “Catia Software” (by Mr. Micheale G/Mariam). The trainings was conducted in two parallel sessions. Out of the 41 trainees, 19 have attended in the technology transfer, “product design and development” and “Catia” trainings. The remaining 22 have attended the “Solar system for house hold applications” training. The Technology Transfer was made through giving training on the design and practical application and physical demonstration of each technologies. All the required designs, part designs, manufacturing manual, operational manual and maintenance manual of each technology are distributed to all of the trainees. All the trainees were mentioning that they are very satisfied with the training and they suggested to do more on the continuity of such trainings to strengthen their human resource development. They also suggested to organize special trainings on basics of different professions for SMEs.



EiTM own cafeteria ready to serve since 1 December 2014

Our new cafeteria just started serving EiTM employees. On the back side of our D1 main building, the students designed and with our own manpower built cafeteria from the containers donated to us from MU, opened the doors for not only EiTM employees. Hot Bunna and Tschay is waiting for you in those cold days.

Don Boroughs the Editor of Prism visiting EiTM

Don Borougs, the editor for Prism, the magazine of the American Society for Engineering Education visited us on 11 December 2014. Don spent nearly a whole day on visiting our institute and making pictures. He will release an article on our rapid growth of technology education especially within engineering part. On the picture, Don is interviewing the head of Electrical Computing School, Dr.Gebremichael.


School of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Wins Second Round EnPe Program Funding

EnPe (NORAD´s Master Program for Energy and Petroleum) has recently awarded Mekelle University, EiT-M, School of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and its partner Universities 12 Million NoK funding for a project entitled “Capacity Building in Renewable Energy, Education and Research”. The project is collaboration between Mekelle University, NTNU, University of Dar Es Salaam, Makerere University and Eduardo Mondlane University.

A collaborative meeting was held end of August 2014 in Trondheim, Norway to formulate the final project proposal and budgeting. The revised proposal was submitted beginning of September 2014. The EnPe secretariat has officially accepted the proposal and awarded the funding. Mekelle University will be the “Agreement Partner” with the responsibility of coordinating the overall project. Dr. Mulu Bayray (Project Coordinator) and Mr. Anwar Mustefa from the School of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering attended the meeting.

The funding awarded for Mekelle University is 2.7 Million NoK (around 9 Million Birr) for the period 2015-2018. The main capacity building components will be: support 20 M.Sc. students through tuition, fellowships for two staff members for Ph.D. studies in solar and wind energy, support the Ph.D. studies with laboratory equipments/instruments, support research dissemination, publication and participation in conferences.

It is to be recalled that EnPe supported the M.Sc. in Energy Technology program from the year 2010 to 2014. The project was successfully accomplished with 27 M.Sc. graduates including one Malawian student.
